John Legend And Wife Chrissy Teigen Hire Food Trucks To Feed Eric Garner Protesters In NYC

Despite New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton’s prediction that public protests over the Eric Garner and Ferguson Grand Jury decisions would “peter out,” the protests are still going strong thanks, in part, to a generous contribution from John Legend and his wife and food blogger Chrissy Teigen. The couple brought a fleet of food trucks to serve free food to hungry protesters in New York’s Lincoln Square.

Even though John Legend or Chrissy Teigen are not on the ground or taking direct credit for the trucks, Teigen did retweet the following message to her 500,000 followers.

For his part, Legend has let his art do the talking for him. The musician wrote a stirring track from the upcoming film Selma about the three Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965 which led to to the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The track, entitled “Glory,” contains the lyrics: “That’s why Rosa sat on the bus/That’s why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up.”

Tika Sumpter has got herself one of a life time role; she will be Michelle Obama in the romance film “Southside With You.” The film will concentrate on the early romance stages of Mr & Mrs Obama. 

According to Indiewire, The project is being pitched as a “Before Sunset”-style type of movie (in short, man, woman, lots of mostly profound conversation over a period of time), it will be taking place entirely in one day during the summer of 1989, when one Barack Obama (then a first-year Harvard Law student) took his future wife, Michelle (an associate at a Chicago law firm), out on a first date, which included a tour of Chicago’s South Side. The film will be directed by Richard Tanne and produced by Stephanie Allain. Word is that Richard Tanne and Tika Sumpter worked on the script together. Sumpter will serve as an executive producer on the project. -
